There’s nothing like an easy lay…and Grand Theft Auto 4 knows all about it.
I don’t know why this struck me as interesting but it did. Something that I’ve noticed with the newest installation of the Grand Theft Auto family is that the girls are incredibly easy. Compare them to the girls in San Andres and you can clearly see a difference. Currently in the game I’m at a point where Niko has 4 girlfriends and each one put out on our second date. Each scenario was different from the previous one but all in all the results were always the same. I even accidentally punched one of the girls (okay it wasn’t an accident) and she still let me make it up to her at the end of the date.
I’ve also noticed that the girls are easily more accessible than their predecessors. Almost all of them are readily available from the internet with the exception of two whom are introduced by friends. I remember back in San Andres that you had to go out of your way to date most of the girls except for maybe one or two that you met during the course of a few missions. Not only did you have to find those bitches but you had to impress them too. You couldn’t just arrange some date via an internet profile or call them up like you can now. You had to have the right hair cut, the right clothing, and even the right tattoo or the right car when you first approached them. And even after all of that, you started off with a very low relationship score which you had to work up through the course of several dates before you even got to second base AND all of this relied on what condition you showed up in for the date. So if you just finished having a gang war, you needed to clean up before you showed up.
In San Andres, you didn’t decide what you guys would do on your date, she would TELL you what she wanted to do and then you took her there. Let’s not forget to mention you had to buy her flowers in order to get even more in her good graces and some of the dates were small annoying mini-games like dancing. For GTA4, all you have to do is show up, take her out, and she’s good to go when you drive her home. Half the time I don’t even bother taking them anywhere besides Burger Shot because it’s usually close by and cheap. I mean really, I don’t want to waste money on some girlfriend when I could use that on something more exciting…like a prostitute. By the way, how come it’s $20 bucks when you take your date to Burger Shot but when you go by yourself it’s $1? What’s that girl ordering…the entire menu? I know they aren’t selling lobster so where’s the money going?
What’s even funnier is the parallels to real life seen in both games. Neither one is more realistic than the other in its approach as both contain very real elements of dating. There really are girls out there that base going out with a guy on what car he drives and what he looks like. And it’s no secret that more and more people are finding love through the internet as society becomes more dependent on it.
I just find it funny that with all the controversy of the game from people complaining it’s too violent that some feminist group hasn’t taken arms against the fact that the girls in the game are pretty much willingly and ready to get down for a night at Burger Shot. I mean we had women getting mad about a game called Fat Princess but they aren’t mad that this game basically promotes the fact that women are a bunch of easy sluts or is it because it’s a true fact? Hey I guess you have to pick and choose your battles wisely…

What about the old layout looks better ethermay? What about then new design do you not like? I would love to make the website better for the readers but without any tangible details I can’t do that.
I actually like the new layout. My eyes had to take time getting used to the old one. I spent a few seconds looking for bylines, comment links and tags. With the new layout, my eyes are jumping right to the information I want and I’m not missing anything.
One specific thing I’m noticing is better contrast, both in color and composition. The headers appear to be more effective but I can’t honestly remember what the old ones looked like. The date posted Icons are something I’d like to see on other sites. On Kotaku I usually have to go back several pages until the headlines start looking familiar, but this solves it. I see you have room for avatars now, too. That’s a really community friendly feature. One I don’t use myself, but I usually remember an image better than I remember a name.
I would like to see posts archived by date as well. If you already have that it’s not obvious. I really dislike using the ‘previous entries’ links. An option to display more posts per page would be a nice addition. I also think you’re navigation bar (home, about) should be justified to the left for ease of use, but I can see why it is where it is considering the graphic you have behind it. Perhaps you could fill up that void with a random quote? Maybe you can process comments to be truncated and randomly selected to appear there with a link to the post?

it may functionally work and look better. HOWEVER. There is NO identity to the entire thing. The Voodoo Doll gave you guys your identity and seperated you from the rest. IF you had one of your own graphics up there it would make alot more sense and give you a unique representation. Much like the doll. So maybe a blue-ish adaptation graphic that still goes with the layout completely, but works in your “SuperVoodoo” theme?
i think that is the only thing that doesnt help it to me.
The doll is my fault and it’ll be back up again.
