Warren Ellis has been signed on to write the animated film based on Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse (my favorite) for quite sometime now.  His personal production blog: Castlevania Dracula’s Curse was lacking any new news since December ‘07, finally receiving a quick, but well-needed update.

Sorry for the lack of updates. Warren delivered the revised draft of the script in early June. It has generated inquiries from some interested in releasing Castlevania as an animated feature film instead of a direct to DVD. Discussions are ongoing.

I contacted Warren on his personal blog, warrenellis.com, a few months back to see if I could get a quick update straight from the horse’s mouth. Unfortunately, Ellis replied with a very cryptic “Movie time moves much slower than real time”, giving nothing to really sink my teeth into (pun, very much intended).

I’m honestly hoping this will stay direct to DVD rather than become a feature theatrical film.  We’re already (ugh) getting a theatrical Paul W.S. Anderson Castlevania release (which, according to CC2k, is atrocious…surprise, surprise) sometime in the near future.

With a DVD release, it seems like the pretty graphic Ellis version could get away with more by staying more under the radar and have a bit more freedom not usually granted from a big budget movie studios on theatrical releases.

Either way, I appreciate the update.
